Temporary Trip Permits (IRP)

A Temporary Trip Permit (IRP) is necessary for any heavy haul vehicle that is traveling outside of its base state without being registered under the International Registration Plan. You will need a Temporary Trip Permit if:

  • Your Vehicle isn’t registered under the IRP
  • Your Vehicle has 3 or more axles
  • Your Vehicle has a gross weight over 26,000 lbs
  • Your tractor & trailer have a combined weight that exceeds 26,000 lbs

Temporary Fuel Permits (IFTA)

Temporary Fuel Permits (IFTA) are necessary for vehicles traveling through different states as well. Long story short, the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) exists as an attempt to simplify the reporting of fuel taxes. It allows a taxpayer to file one report that covers all member jurisdictions.

You will need a Temporary Fuel Permit if:

  • You aren’t registered under IFTA
  • You have 2 axles and gross vehicle weight exceeds 26,000 lbs
  • You have 3 or more axles
  • Your tractor & trailer have a combined weight that exceeds 26,000 lbs

Depending on the county or state roads, a different permit will be required. At Omni Star our experts handle all of the time consuming and difficult details of route planning and obtaining proper permits so the drivers who keep this country moving forward can continue to do just that!
