Security Measures

“Oversize Load” signs are required when the vehicle exceeds 10′ wide or is over length. Red or orange flags, 18″ square, are required at the front and rear corners of over width loads, and at the widest point of any load which is more than 4″ wider than the vehicle or the front or rear corners of the load. An overhang requires a single flag to be fastened at the extreme rear of the load if the overhang or projecting portion is 2′ wide or less. If overhang is over 2′ wide, 2 flags are required. When moving during hours of darkness, lights are required at the outermost extremities, an amber lamp is needed in the front and a red lamp is needed at the rear. Amber lights are also required where the load extends beyond the width of the front or rear edges. When load overhangs more than 4′ beyond the rear of the vehicle, red lamps are required to indicate maximum width and length.
